Patent Agent | Genentech, Inc. | San Francisco, CA
Jamie Nesbitt received a Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology from University of Alabama at Birmingham before moving to California for post-doctoral fellowship in neurobiology at Stanford University. Following the fellowship, he took a position at a start-up biotech company (FibroGen) as one of their first research scientists. After four years and having advanced to a Senior Research Scientist position, Nesbitt ‘left the bench’ and redirected his career to that of intellectual property, becoming a patent agent while at FibroGen, where he stayed for an additional eleven years, advancing to Director, Intellectual Property. In 2011, Nesbitt accepted a patent agent position at Genentech, for which he currently supports, among other things, infectious disease, neuroscience, development sciences, and structural biology.
In 2008, Nesbitt was diagnosed with primary/acute HIV infection and began treatment immediately. Jamie has been a consultant for Gilead, giving a patient's perspective on HIV and HIV medications as part of their new hire program. Additionally, he was a clinical trial study volunteer in the STEP HIV Vaccine trial and has served on the Community Advisory Group of the HIV Research Section within the San Francisco Department of Public Health.
