About the RWJF Award for Health Equity presented by AIDS United

The vision of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) is to build a culture of health to ensure the achievement of health equity. The RWJF Award for Health Equity presented by AIDS United, is a six-year annual award program (through December 2022) supporting RWJF’s vision, that honors an individual or a two-person team, who have successfully implemented systems changes, and promoted and highlighted solutions at the community level that lead to health equity. The recipient of this annual award will receive a $3,000 prize and will be honored at a virtual ceremony in 2022.

Friday, October 15th, 2021 is the deadline for the submission of nominations for the 2021 RWJF-AIDS United Award for Health Equity.

Eligibility Criteria

The RWJF-AIDS United Award for Health Equity recognizes individuals or teams of no more than two individuals, who have successfully implemented a systems-change approach to reduce health inequities within the past two years, in one or more of the following areas: 1) access to quality care; 2) education; 3) employment; 4) income; 5) community environment; 6) housing; and, 7) public safety.

The RWJF-AIDS United Award is open only to individuals and teams of no more than two individuals, who meet all of the following eligibility criteria: are (a) citizens or legal residents of the United States, (b) thirteen (13) years of age or older, (c) not a trustee, director, officer, shareholder, employee, contractor, agent, representative, or affiliate of RWJF, Sponsor, selection committee or the spouse/domestic partner, parent, sibling, child, or grandchild of any of the foregoing, (d) have not previously received any RWJF Award for Health Equity from any sponsor organization in any year. Each individual, each team, and each individual member of a team, is referred to as a “Nominee” in these rules.

Selection Criteria

Eligible nomination applications will be reviewed according to the following criteria:

Nominee’s work shows alignment with Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s vision for building a Culture of Health and achieving health equity
Nominee’s work demonstrated success in changing systems that impact health outcomes in one or more of the following areas: social, racial or gender justice; access to quality care; education; employment; income; community environment; housing; and public safety
Nominee’s work provided a solution to improve outcomes for groups most affected by health disparities
Nominee successfully implemented a systems-change approach to reduce health disparities within the past two years
Nominee’s work addresses HIV-related inequities in their communities

Nomination Submission Process and Deadline

All nomination submissions must be received by no later than Friday, October 15, 2021, at 11:59 p.m. EDT. For more information, please contact Laura Gerson, Program Associate at lgerson@aidsunited.org.

Completed applications should be submitted via this link: Online Survey Software | Qualtrics Survey Solutions. Please provide your responses to all the items noted in the application document. Please also provide the nominee’s resume or CV, and any supplemental information supporting the work of the nominee.

Award Selection and Notification Process

The AIDS United Board of Trustees Executive Committee will review eligible applications and select the recommended nominee; whose information will be forwarded to RWJF for review and approval. Award winners will be notified once approved by RWJF and will be honored at virtual ceremony in 2022.
